The educational concert ‘El Son Jarocho’ is an event within the 14th IPF Guadalquivir that aims to delve into the musical roots of the Veracruz region in Mexico. Its origins date back to the colonial period, where Spanish, Indigenous, and African elements intertwined. There is historical evidence of this music being prevalent in the early 19th century, from the Nautla River Basin in the State of Veracruz to Huimanguillo in present-day Tabasco, as well as in Córdoba, within the Papaloapan Basin, bridging a cultural connection between our featured country and Andalusian Córdoba.
This concert is free and is designed for music students, university attendees, and music enthusiasts who want to explore this musical phenomenon born from a rich cultural blend and well-defined indigenous traditions. Many of these elements can also be found in the Andalusian musical heritage, such as flamenco and fandango.
With the participation of La Calandria, a group from Xalapa, Veracruz, we have the privilege of gaining first hand insight into this musical genre, understanding how it is performed, and enjoying songs composed by them in this distinctive style, making them distinguished representatives of the genre in the country.
