Born on June 27, 1945, in Paris, France, Catherine Lacoste is the daughter of internationally renowned parents in the world of sports. Her father, René LACOSTE, was a Wimbledon, Forest Hills, French Championship, and Davis Cup winner. He was the creator of La Chemise Lacoste in 1933 and the president of an aerospace company. Her mother, Simone THION DE LA CHAUME, was the Ladies British Championship winner in 1927 and several times French Champion.
Following in her mother’s footsteps, Catherine is the only amateur to have won the US Women’s Open Golf in 1967. She also won the World Team Championship in 1964 (1st in the Individual Classification that year and in 1968). She won the Ladies British Championship in 1969, just like her mother, making them the only mother and daughter to achieve this. Catherine won the US Amateur in 1969.
She married Jaime PRADO Y COLON DE CARVAJAL in 1970 (deceased in 1997), with whom she had four children. In 2000, she married ANGEL G. PIÑERO. During their 22 years of marriage, Catherine supported her husband in developing his career as a composer in every possible way. They created the International Classical Guitar Competition “Ángel G. Piñero” and the Classical Guitar Association “Ángel G. Piñero.” Now, she devotes most of her time to promoting her husband’s music worldwide with the help of all those who love and support it. She is an Officer of the Légion d’Honneur, awarded by President Nicolas Sarkozy.
